ElmSoft was founded in 1988.
Several programers, having just completed various hush-hush government projects, met in secret in the back booth of a McDonald's restaurant. It seems that a new technology, the CD-ROM, had recently been introduced. Up to 700 MB of data could be stored on a single disc.
They decided to write software that would build and index databases optimized for CD readers. That product was called Romware.
Romware was successful. Customers purchased Romware and created large databases and sold their data to their customers, who were able to search their discs lightning fast. However, all was not well. Why you might ask?

The internet came along!!
Suddenly, people were reluctant to spend money to purchase discs full of data, when they could search the world for free!
It was back to contract work.
It was during one of these contract programming efforts that they were introduced to FrameMaker and the FrameMaker FDK.
They noticed there were many intelligent FrameMaker users, but they did not have any programming background.
They knew what they wanted to do, but did not have the training to do it.
From this observation, FrameScript was created.
FrameScript was released in November, 1997 (for FrameMaker 5.1) and has been going strong ever since. The current version, FrameScript 7, runs on FrameMaker versions 2013 through 2022
FrameScript recently celebrated its 21st birthday.
